No fish at the sand pit

Oh dear. Five days into the new year, three days fishing and two blanks already. Decided on a trip to a local pit today, mainly in order to try out a new rig for distance casting that I've had in mind. I'm well pleased with the rig, it works better than I had hoped but no fish came my way. I bumped into two other pikers on the pit, one of them had had a ten pounder while the other fared no better than me. They told me there had been a lot of blanks for them on this particular water - a bad choice perhaps! One thing I did notice was the abundance of weed. Even in swims over twelve feet deep the place was choked and despite frequent recasting I struggled to find any clear patches.

Roll on winter, if we ever get another!
